Job Description:

Position Purpose

The Apprentice Engineer will be trained to meet the requirements of the Maintenance Engineering role. The Apprentice Engineer will attend college one day a week and complete a Level 3 in Engineering in conjunction with the apprenticeship levy.

Key Job Activities

  • Observe and comply with the company safety policy, all safety notices and signs, ensuring that all work is carried out safely and properly.
  • Become fully conversant with all engineering aspects of the plant.
  • Control the planned maintenance system, develop the programme and ensure all maintenance works are carried out and recorded under the guidance of the Plant Manager (site‑specific).
  • Collaborate with shift supervisors to avoid conflicts with maintenance works and ensure continued plant operation.
  • Inspect, coordinate, and maintain plant maintenance documentation with the Plant Manager.
  • Prepare and coordinate inspections, and effect repairs if required for all statutory and non‑statutory testing actions for plant and equipment in conjunction with management.
  • Review and update site maintenance procedures as required.
  • Maintain the workshop area and ensure spares availability to minimise downtime.
  • Provide the Plant Manager with appropriate stock lists for audit purposes.
  • Liaise with the Plant Manager on improvement initiatives for company equipment.
  • Complete maintenance logs in line with the company B.M.S. System.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Grade C or above in maths and English GCSE.
  • Level 1 or 2 in Engineering or similar.
  • Willingness to attend college and complete coursework, both practical and academic.
  • Driving licence preferred.
  • Ability to listen and act on instructions.
  • Willingness to attend additional training courses specific to the role.
  • Basic knowledge of engineering.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to read and understand written instructions.
  • Basic knowledge of health and safety at work.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office packages, including Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Quick learner and maintain a professional manner.
