Overview

We are looking for enthusiastic and proactive Senior Learning Support Assistants to join our team based at Pathways, Primary PRU, Aylesbury. The role starts with the Autumn Term 2026 and may also require working at our Amersham and Wycombe sites.

About the Role

The role is based at Pathways Primary PRU in Aylesbury. It offers opportunities to develop excellent behaviour management skills and, once fully trained, to work with pupils in mainstream schools via our outreach service. The position is permanent, term‑time only, and may be full or part‑time (at least three days a week, including Wednesday) with working hours between 8:30 am and 3:30 pm.

Responsibilities

  • Lead small classes in the absence of the teacher.
  • Deliver and support inclusive learning experiences and interventions to individuals and small groups (typically six to eight pupils).
  • Provide cover for teaching colleagues and lead classes when teachers have other responsibilities.
  • Support pupils with complex SEND needs, including SEMH and challenging behaviour.
  • Lead outreach programmes for named pupils and build effective working relationships with mainstream colleagues.
  • Mentor and support colleagues, sharing best practice and contributing to the team.

About You

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong understanding of trauma‑informed practice and the impact of adverse childhood experiences on behaviour and learning. They will be skilled at building positive, trusting relationships and creating a safe, nurturing classroom environment where every child feels valued. Ideal experience includes working with children with SEMH needs in a primary or special school setting, or roles such as outreach worker or tutor that provide transferable skills. Innovative, highly motivated, organised and able to take responsibility for small groups or 1:1 work alongside class teachers and other LSAs is essential.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children with complex SEND and SEMH needs.
  • Proactive, organised and capable of leading small classes.
  • Strong understanding of trauma‑informed practice.
  • Good communication skills and ability to build rapport with pupils, mainstream teachers and colleagues.
