Estimator/QS required for Principal Contractor

(Commercial & Residential Projects)

Location: Central London

Type: Full-time

Salary: Competitive package, dependent on experience

We are seeking an Estimator with some Quantity Surveyor experience to join our growing construction team, delivering a mix of commercial and residential projects.

• Review tender drawings, specifications, schedules, and supporting documents.

• Prepare accurate cost estimates and tender submissions for construction projects.

• Measure quantities from drawings and other project information.

• Issue enquiries to subcontractors and suppliers and obtain competitive quotations.

• Analyse and compare subcontractor and supplier returns.

• Build up rates for labour, plant, materials, preliminaries, and subcontract packages.

• Identify risks, exclusions, assumptions, and value engineering opportunities.

• Prepare detailed cost breakdowns and pricing summaries.

• Attend site visits and pre-tender meetings where required.

• Liaise with clients, consultants, suppliers, and internal delivery teams during the tender stage.

• Clarify scope gaps, technical queries, and commercial issues before submission.

• Review tender documents for inconsistencies and raise queries as necessary.

• Support bid submissions, including pricing schedules, qualifications, and supporting documentation.

• Maintain and update estimating databases, subcontractor records, and cost benchmarks. • Handover successful tenders clearly to project and commercial teams.

• Monitor tender outcomes and review pricing performance to improve future submissions.

• Keep up to date with market rates, material costs, labour trends, and supply chain conditions.

• Work closely with directors, commercial managers, and operations teams to support business growth.

Requirements

• Experience working for a Principal Contractor in Estimators role.

• Good understanding of construction works and sequencing.

• Ability to manage tendering process independently.

• Strong negotiation and communication skills essential.

• Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying/Estimator (preferred)
