Across Unipart Rail and Park Signalling we utilise our specialist engineering skills and knowledge to deliver products and services including consultancy and projects. We deliver design and development, application engineering, prototype manufacture, repair and consultancy at any stage in the life-cycle of a system or product. We design, manufacture and supply a range of products for the needs of the world-wide railway signalling, telecommunications and industrial control system industry. As a signalling consultancy, we are unique in the product knowledge that we hold. This know-how is current, relevant and easily transferable to all types of fail-safe control systems and products.
We now have an exciting opportunity for 2 apprentices to join our busy Software team in Stockport. You must be qualified to A level or equivalent in STEM subjects and have demonstrable experience in Software, whether through study or outside interests. You will be supported through relevant software qualifications utilising the apprenticeship levy whilst gaining hands on experience and mentoring from fellow Software Engineers.
As an Apprentice Software Engineer you will
Assist in writing and modifying low-risk code modules for embedded hardware or desktop OS applications according to engineering instructions.
Execute routine, pre-written software unit-test scripts, systematically recording data and flagging anomalies to senior development staff.
Assist in writing and maintaining basic technical documentation, code comments, and software change logs in compliance with software quality systems.
Participate actively in stand-ups and company development programs, logging progress toward formal engineering competencies.

Apply technical and practical skills to resolve problems and deliver continuous improvements.
Conduct all duties in a safe manner in accordance with Health and Safety requirements and Industry standards.
Communicate successes, challenges, and progress to peers and project managers.
Candidates shouldbe able to demonstrate the following:
Basic software engineering knowledge and practical application of skills gained through work experience or outside interests/hobbies.
Ability to work on one’s own initiative.
IT literate with experience in Excel and Word (and Google Suite)
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Proactive, positive attitude with a flexible approach to working.
Demonstrable experience working effectively within team settings, showing active listening skills and a proactive approach to learning.
These are entry level positions into Software, however we would welcome applications from candidates with Level 3/4 Software Apprenticeship framework certificate, or an HNC/HND in Computer Science or Software Engineering.
