Technical Support Engineer
West Bromwich
Salary: £45,000 – £50,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Hours: Monday to Thursday 8:30am – 4:30pm | Friday 8:30am – 4:00pm
The Best Connection is recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Technical Support Engineer to join their growing team in West Bromwich.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineering professional with strong technical knowledge, commercial awareness, and a passion for delivering exceptional customer support.
You’ll play a key role in supporting customers, developing new products, and collaborating across multiple departments to drive innovation and business success.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical support and application advice to both the sales team and customers.
- Deliver product and application training to internal teams and customers.
- Assess the viability of new project opportunities, including payback periods, resource planning, and capital requirements.
- Participate in the design, development, and testing of new products.
- Assist with obtaining and maintaining product approvals and industry standards.
- Support product lifecycle management, including catalogues, datasheets, and technical documentation alongside the Product Manager.
- Assist with the introduction and launch of new products and services.
- Work closely with the Quality department on product investigations and validation activities.
- Maintain accurate product data within ERP and product management systems, including Bills of Materials (BOMs) and routings.
- Travel occasionally within the UK to suppliers and customer sites, including overnight stays when required (advance notice provided).
What We’re Looking For
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience providing technical support and application advice to both internal and external customers.
- Proven ability to build, maintain, and influence relationships with key stakeholders.
- Experience delivering technical product and application training.
- Project management experience.
- Strong understanding of ERP/MRP systems.
- Customer‑focused with a commitment to delivering outstanding service.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills with confident decision‑making ability.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, NVQ in Design, or a related engineering qualification.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in business development, sales, technical support, or a related OEM environment.
- Strong product and industry knowledge within OEM markets.
- Commercially minded with a proven track record of growing key accounts and industrial markets.
- Previous experience within an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Experience working with external test laboratories and certification bodies.
- Knowledge of flexible conduit products for electrical applications.
