The contract covers routine operation and maintenance services for the 123‑km M40 motorway, including management of road incidents, road availability bookings and operation of the Network Control Centre. It involves a team of over 110 staff across three depots and requires a dedicated incident response unit.
Responsibilities
- Ensure all activities are completed safely in compliance with the company’s health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular site inspections and safety audits to identify and mitigate risks.
- Participate in the delivery of safety briefings, toolbox talks and learning discussions.
- Oversee, supervise and participate in the delivery of landscape and ecology works, ensuring compliance with wildlife legislation and that all works documents are filed timely.
- Maintain accurate records of completed works and report failures to the L&E Planning and Delivery Manager for re‑planning.
- Support competency identification and communicate requirements to the L&E Planning and Delivery Manager.
- Identify and recommend training needs for operatives.
- Investigate incidents and near‑misses, document findings, implement corrective actions and ensure lessons learnt are captured.
- Monitor work to ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards and contractual obligations.
- Proactively identify and address defects or non‑conformances, escalating to the L&E Planning and Delivery Manager.
- Ensure all necessary permits and approvals are in place before night works commence.
- Report fleet or plant issues to the relevant manager and support resolution efforts, seeking innovation to improve service.
- Maintain plant in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions, reporting defects to the Day Works Manager.
- Provide timely information and feedback to ERO M40 Management for reporting.
- Promote teamwork and positive work attitudes, fostering collaboration, fairness and morale.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with our client and partners.
- Collaborate with other departments and contractors to facilitate works.
- Assist in creation of works packets, including briefings and permits.
- Assist in supervising subcontractors, monitoring performance, ensuring adherence to contractual obligations and project timelines, and that they work safely in accordance with the CDM pack.
- Engage fully with health, safety and wellbeing initiatives rolled out by Egis Road Operation M40 Ltd and/or Egis UK.
- Carry out any related duties as required.
Qualifications
- Proven track record as a Site Team Lead on high‑speed road projects.
- Current CSCS Supervisor card, SSSTS/SMSTS.
- Strong understanding of landscape and ecology principles, including best practice and ecological constrictions.
- Demonstrable ability to identify areas for improvement and implement change through clear communication and a drive to succeed.
- Considerable experience of a high regard to safety and quality on a high‑speed strategic road network.
- Strong ability to lead teams effectively, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Capability in making informed decisions under pressure, ensuring timely resolution of issues.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, engaging effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Flexible approach to managing changing priorities and working conditions during night‑time hours.
Desirable Qualifications
- Safe use of hedge cutter, strimmer, chipper, blower.
- Level 2 Award in Chainsaw Maintenance & Cross‑Cutting 0020‑03 or CS30.
- Level 2 Award in Felling & Processing Trees up to 380 mm 0020‑04 or CS31 minimum.
- Level 2 Award in using a Powered Pole Pruner – NPORS 360 Degrees Below 10 Tonnes.
