Job Overview

The Maxillofacial and Dental unit provides an exciting and varied clinical environment to learn new skills. Dental nurses will be exposed to complex multi‑disciplinary clinical problems within a professional and friendly environment. The team is highly focussed on excellent patient care and is known for its innovation on the most up‑to‑date techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare the surgery, including the equipment, instruments and materials used, to ensure the efficient running of the clinics.
  • Receive, attend to, and prepare patients for treatment by the clinician, and supervise and attend to patients after treatment until they are fit to leave the surgery.
  • Liaise with reception staff and answer the telephone in the clinical areas.
  • Always assist the clinician at the chair‑side and act as a chaperone throughout treatment and in the surgery as required, to ensure that a high‑quality service is provided to the patient.
  • Transfer patients to the X‑Ray department from the surgery and from the in‑house radiography department.
  • Abide by and maintain a high standard of infection control policies and procedures, thereby minimising the risk of cross‑infection.
  • Maintain accurate treatment records, including charting the Dentist’s instructions, ensuring all relevant information is up‑to‑date and treated confidentially.
  • Carry out administrative and clerical work associated with the surgery, including information collection and assisting the clinician to provide an efficient service.
  • Maintain the surgery and equipment, notifying and logging faults in a timely manner, and monitoring the process.
  • Undertake stock control at the clinic, replenishing consumable supplies and materials to contribute to the smooth running of the clinic.
