About the division
The Water Consultancy Division is Mott MacDonald’s centre of excellence for responding to water and wastewater challenges, offering opportunities to work on diverse, technically challenging projects across the full project life cycle.
Overview of the role
As a senior water quality modeller you will be part of a large team of water resources and wastewater network specialists. The role involves working closely with engineers and asset planners to deliver a wide range of services for UK and international clients. You will use both bespoke and industry standard hydrodynamic and water quality modelling packages, innovate beyond current standards, develop integrated river network and drainage models, investigate natural processes affecting contaminants, build ad‑hoc assessment tools, and perform statistical analyses. Opportunities exist to engage in hydrology, systems modelling, groundwater, flood modelling and computational fluid dynamics.
Key responsibilities
- Core delivery of complex modelling projects in collaboration with multidisciplinary experts.
- Analysis of large datasets to identify patterns and relationships, providing insights and foresights for effective resolutions.
- Assisting with proposal writing, winning work and developing new business by providing key technical inputs.
- Maintaining client relationships and managing projects.
- Supporting, training, mentoring and developing junior colleagues where practicable.
Candidate specification
Essential:
- Relevant degree‑level qualifications (e.g. geography, mathematics, environmental sciences, civil engineering, or related disciplines).
- Chartered with an appropriate professional body.
- Track record in successful delivery of SOAF, UPM and/or river modelling projects (all levels) for UK water companies.
- Good understanding of hydrodynamics, sediments and water quality processes.
- Expertise in industry standard software such as InfoWorks and/or MIKE11.
- Willingness to innovate.
- Able to guide and mentor junior staff.
Desirable:
- Coding skills and statistical foundations.
- Experience in source apportionment assessments, catchment management modelling or application of nature‑based solutions to tackle pollution.
