Job Summary

Position: Mechanical Production Design Support Team Lead

Location: Bolton, UK (hybrid 3‑4 days per week on‑site)

Salary: Circa £57,000 depending on experience

Security Clearance: British Citizen (HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks required)

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of up to six high‑performing mechanical engineers
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to align technical solutions with business goals
  • Manage project timelines, priorities and resource allocation to meet deadlines and quality standards
  • Develop processes with stakeholders to drive best practice
  • Identify and remove blockers to foster team collaboration
  • Provide regular feedback, career development support and team engagement activities

Qualifications

  • Degree/HND/HNC in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Significant experience in mechanical design and development, or manufacturing support (wider experience preferred)
  • Preferably experience in defence or aerospace industry (not essential)
  • High level of competence in industry‑standard 3D CAD packages such as PTCCREO
  • Proficiency in interpreting detailed drawings to BS8888 and applying GD&T controls
  • Ability to write clear and concise engineering documentation (reports, investigation logs)
  • Strong verbal communication, negotiation and influencing skills
  • Experience in tolerance studies and analysis to ensure compliance with prime product standards
  • Experience with development techniques such as FMEA, DFA and DFM
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, resolving manufacturing issues and driving product transition into production
  • Skills in scoping tasks needed to resolve issues and managing conflicting priorities for yourself and the team
  • Previous technical leadership or team‑lead role is advantageous
