Overview
The Atkins Réalis Traffic Control Systems (TCS) team works across the transport sector to help clients navigate a rapidly changing world, linking current traffic signals and intelligent transport systems with future‑focused technology opportunities. The team undertakes design, implementation, consultancy and advisory projects for UK and international clients including the Department for Transport, National Highways and local authorities. It sits within the Intelligent Transport & Infrastructure (ITI) practice, part of the UK Transportation business, delivering data‑driven solutions that improve network performance and outcomes for clients and communities.
Role
- As a Traffic Control Systems Engineer, you will deliver high‑quality, world‑class projects to clients across the UK, improving journeys, safety and sustainability.
- Key areas of responsibility include:
- Successful delivery of traffic signal and ITS schemes from inception to operation, including detailed design, FAT, SAT and validation.
- Liaison with clients to provide technical advice, develop opportunities and progress project delivery.
- Assistance and guidance to less experienced staff on technical delivery.
- Delivering technical reports and presentations.
- Developing commercial knowledge, including cost estimates and scopes.
- Managing project tasks: monitoring budgets, raising risks and resolving issues.
- Working both as part of a team and individually, ensuring delivery to budget, time and quality.
- You will join a collaborative team with a wide range of experience and will have opportunities to broaden your technical expertise through varied projects, multidisciplinary teams, targeted learning and innovative solutions.
- Based from one of our offices in Bristol, Birmingham, Epsom or Nottingham, this role offers hybrid working and occasional short‑term travel across the UK and overseas.

- Ability to deliver outputs on multiple projects and clients.
- Strong awareness of Health & Safety issues and CDM.
- Either already a member of or keen to become a member of a relevant Professional Institute and obtain professional registration.
