Environmental Data Officer

Location: Bangor

Hours: Monday to Friday, 37 hours per week

Pay: £17.54 per hour

Contract: Temporary, 6 months, Field‑based role

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our clients Environmental Assessment and Advice Team in northwest Wales.

As an Environmental Data Officer, your work will focus on monitoring discharges from metal mines across north and upper mid‑Wales. You will be responsible for collecting high‑quality environmental data in the field and supporting its collation and analysis through desk‑based work. The data you gather will help inform statutory reporting and contribute to decisions that support the sustainable management of natural resources in Wales.

This is a varied and active role, suited to someone who enjoys working outdoors, including in remote locations and in all weather conditions, and who is comfortable working in and around rivers and lakes.

Key responsibilities

  • Driving between monitoring sites
  • Collecting routine water quality samples from freshwater environments
  • Sampling invertebrates and diatoms
  • Using field equipment such as handheld meters and toughpads to collect and log data
  • Deploying and retrieving monitoring equipment, including data sondes and passive samplers
  • Collating and managing monitoring data for reporting and analysis purposes
  • Working closely with colleagues within the Environmental Assessment and Advice Team and the metal mines group

Essential requirements

  • Full UK driving licence
  • Degree level qualification (or above) in an environmental, water quality, marine, or biological discipline
  • Competent swimmer with confidence working in rivers and lakes
  • Good working knowledge of the Welsh language
  • Ability to work outdoors in varied and often remote environments
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately record field data
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
