Job Overview

This post will work within the Medicine Physiotherapy service at North Bristol’s main Southmead site. The Medicine pathway covers a range of settings including Older Persons Medicine, Frailty short stay, Elgar Enablement Unit and specialist medical areas such as infectious diseases and gastroenterology. The role is a senior support worker providing physiotherapy interventions to acutely unwell adults, working within medicine both with other colleagues and autonomously. The post rotates between clinical areas every six months.

The working pattern is 7.5 hours a day, Monday‑Friday, with a weekend commitment of one weekend day per month, with time back in the week which is rostered.

Full training and an in‑service training programme will be provided for the successful candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Provide physiotherapy assessments, exercise plans and support patients through their journey including discharge planning.
  • Take responsibility for own caseload following referral from a physiotherapist, adhering to specified therapeutic programmes and protocols.
  • Monitor patient progress and adapt treatment as necessary.
  • Support discharge planning, including completion of discharge paperwork.
  • Support other support workers to manage their caseloads, support their training, and work with undergraduate students on placement.
  • Work within a 7‑day rostered working pattern.

Person Specification

Education / Training / Qualifications

  • Evidence of a higher level apprenticeship, foundation degree or equivalent clinical experience.
  • Evidence of a continued desire to learn and develop oneself.

Work Experience

  • Experience of working in a healthcare environment.
  • Desirable: experience working as a therapy support worker.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Knowledge of role and relevant skills required.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Desirable: experience working with medical patients including frailty.

Qualities / Special Circumstances

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • An empathetic attitude towards patients.
  • Experience of working in high‑pressure environments.
  • Desirable: experience working in areas with high demands/pressures.
