Salary: £29,565 – £43,562 per annum (Subject to progression criteria*)

Contract: Full-time, Permanent

Hours: 37 hours per week

Teaching Hours: 864 hours per annum

Annual Leave: 45 days per annum plus statutory bank holidays

Pension: Teachers’ Pension Scheme

Location: Middlesbrough College Main Campus

*Salary progression beyond Point 11 requires achievement and maintenance of QTLS/QTS. Progression beyond Point 14 requires achievement and maintenance of Advanced Teacher Status (ATS).

Job Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Lecturer in Electrical Maintenance Engineering to join our Engineering team. This role will involve delivering high-quality teaching and learning across a range of qualifications, including Pearson Level 3 BTECs and City & Guilds Level 3 T Levels, within both classroom and workshop environments.

You will play a key role in preparing learners with the technical skills, knowledge, and professional behaviours required for progression into employment, apprenticeships, or further study within the electrical and engineering sectors.

The proposed start date for this position is August 2026

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, inclusive, and industry-relevant programmes of study tailored to learner needs
  • Teach across classroom and workshop settings, creating a safe and effective learning environment
  • Design and deliver assessment programmes in line with awarding body and college standards
  • Use diagnostic assessment to identify learner strengths and areas for development, implement timely interventions
  • Maintain accurate records in line with college, awarding body, and funding requirements
  • Participate in internal and external quality assurance processes, including awarding body verification visits
  • Promote high standards of learner behaviour, attendance, and progress
  • Embed college values and actively support the Taking Teaching Higher strategy

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Level 3 qualification in Electrical Maintenance Engineering (or related discipline)
  • GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent)
  • Willingness to work towards a recognised teaching qualification (if not already held)
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills
  • Ability to manage classroom behaviour and create a positive learning environment
  • Commitment to safeguarding and learner wellbeing

Desirable

  • Teaching experience within Electrical or Maintenance Engineering
  • Assessor and/or Internal Verifier qualification (or willingness to work towards)
  • Knowledge of current industry practices and sector developments
  • Experience using digital learning platforms and ILT to support learning
  • Understanding of career pathways within the electrical and engineering sectors

Teacher Training Support

If you are not yet a qualified teacher, the College will support you to achieve a teaching qualification (PGCE), provided you meet the entry requirements:

  • Level 2 English and Maths (support available if required)
  • Continuous UK residency for at least three years
  • Availability of original qualification certificates
