Balfour Beatty is looking for an experienced Senior Civils Estimator to join our civil engineering work‑winning team and support the successful delivery of projects through the SCAPE framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Reviewing tender enquiries, scopes of work and commercial requirements.
  • Producing accurate estimates from first principles for earthworks, drainage, concrete, reinforcement and formwork.
  • Completing quantity take‑offs from drawings, specifications and schedules.
  • Developing bills of quantities, schedules of rates and material requirements.
  • Assessing construction methodologies, temporary works, plant, labour and site‑resource requirements.
  • Preparing and issuing subcontract and supplier enquiries.
  • Interrogating supply‑chain quotations, identifying exclusions, omissions and commercial risks.
  • Attending pre‑tender meetings, site visits and client discussions.
  • Producing tender summaries, qualifications and supporting submission documents.
  • Supporting tender adjudications and agreeing the final tender price with senior leadership.
  • Assisting with post‑tender reviews, contract handovers and project kick‑off meetings.
  • Sharing knowledge and supporting the development of less‑experienced estimators.

About You

You Should Also Have

  • Approximately 8‑10 years of civil engineering estimating experience.
  • The ability to price work accurately from first principles.
  • Experience of the NEC suite of contracts.
  • Knowledge of highways methods of measurement and CESMM.
  • Experience pricing civil engineering projects of varying size and complexity.
  • A good understanding of temporary works and associated costs.
  • Confidence using estimating software, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • The ability to manage competing deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to engage with clients, operational teams and supply‑chain partners.
