Senior Electronics Hardware Design Engineer (Power Electronics Focus)

Gillingham, UK

£55,000 – £60,000 + benefits

UK work authorisation required (no sponsorship available)

We’re working with a specialist engineering business developing advanced electronic control systems for high-reliability applications. They are looking for a Senior Electronics Hardware Design Engineer with strong power electronics experience to join their team.

This is a hands-on design role focused on ECU hardware and power systems in demanding environments.

What you’ll do

  • Design and develop electronic control unit (ECU) hardware
  • Work on AC-DC and DC-DC power electronics circuits
  • Translate requirements into detailed circuit designs
  • Produce schematics, BOMs, and full design documentation
  • Carry out worst-case circuit analysis and support DFMEA
  • Work closely with PCB/ECAD teams on layout and implementation
  • Support validation, manufacturing test, and production teams
  • Ensure designs meet cost, quality, safety, and manufacturability targets
  • Support root cause analysis and technical problem solving
  • Contribute to design reviews and technical reporting

What we’re looking for

  • Strong experience in electronics hardware design
  • Proven experience in power electronics (AC-DC / DC-DC design)
  • Background in automotive or high-reliability systems preferred
  • Experience with DFMEA and structured design processes
  • Understanding of functional safety (ISO 26262 exposure desirable)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with schematic capture and simulation tools
  • Comfortable working in cross-functional engineering teams

Nice to have

  • Automotive ECU development experience
  • ECAD tools (e.g. Xpedition)
  • Manufacturing and test engineering exposure
