Thesuccessful candidate will be an experienced medical secretary with excellent administrative and organisational skills, with knowledge of medical terminology and experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team. You will have excellent IT skills and well-developed communication skills, plus a working knowledge of a busy office environment.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities
- Audio and Copy Typing: transcribing clinical correspondence, discharge summaries and complex medical reports
- Diary and Schedule Management: managing and prepping outpatient and theatre lists for both NHS and private patients
- Patient Pathway Management: tracking NHS patient referrals and waiting lists to ensure they meet national NHS Referral to Treatment (RTT) standards
- Communication: acting as the first point of contact for patients and external agencies, providing sensitive and empathetic responses to queries regarding appointments and admissions
- System Management: navigating IT systems (eg. Electronic Referral Service/e-RS, Patient Administration systems) and updating patient electronic records.
- General Administration: processing post, ordering stationery and managing e-mails

Experience of working as a secretary within an NHS setting is preferable.
This is a demanding but rewarding role that would best suit a self‑motivated and driven individual with a keen eye for detail who is able to prioritise their workload effectively.

Experience
- Previous experience in a patient facing role
- Competent user of all Office 365 programmes with accurate and efficient typing skills
- Have an excellent grasp of English spelling, grammar and punctuation
- Have a proven ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with tact and diplomacy
- We will provide training so experience is not always needed but the following things will be advantageous
- Experience of working under own initiative
- Familiarity with databases or Patient Administration Systems (PAS)
- A good team player and happy to support others when required
