Job Overview

We are looking for a Cost Manager to join the Cost Management Team within the Wales & West Region Project Controls Practice. The role supports senior cost managers in delivering the business plan, growing the team, and sustaining high‑quality technical service for both existing and new clients.

Responsibilities

  • Support the cost management capability, including development and use of Power‑BI, PRISM, Oracle, Ecosys, SAP and other Cost Management software.
  • Engage in the community of practice to sustain technical excellence, service innovation and benchmarking.
  • Deliver excellent client service and support project and technical delivery teams.
  • Help define and implement the strategy for the Cost Management Service, identifying continuous development opportunities.
  • Provide exceptional cost‑management services for multiple stakeholders and identify growth opportunities linked to the Complex Projects business strategy.
  • Maintain engagement with the wider AtkinsRéalis business, ensuring alignment with strategy.
  • Support business development activities and key account management to maximise impact.
  • Provide technical advice to stakeholders and support project commercial accountability.
  • Lead or support delivery of portfolios and projects, acting as an ambassador for AtkinsRéalis and relevant professional bodies.
  • Participate in internal and external training initiatives, quality assurance and environmental management activities.
  • Build and mentor an Assistant Cost Manager, contributing to team development.
  • Travel as required within the Wales & West Region and other strategic locations.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree‑level qualification in construction, finance, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in cost management services for complex infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of industry benchmarks, best practices, Cost and Work Breakdown Structures, and measurement methods (RMM, NRM, EVM).
  • Experience monitoring, analysing and controlling cost performance against targets, and identifying cost‑efficient solutions.
  • Commercial, quantity surveying or finance skills with construction industry awareness, including Standard Forms of Contract (NEC, FIDIC, IChemE).
  • Experience with VBA is desirable but not essential.
  • Major project or programme work experience is desirable.
  • Strong collaborative behaviour for interfacing with multi‑disciplinary teams.
  • Willingness to travel and support needs across regions.
  • Security clearance may be required; successful candidates will need to obtain the relevant level of clearance.
