To support our continued growth, we are looking for a HV Commissioning Engineer to join our team in Middlesbrough.
Responsibilities
- Attend commissioning meetings with representatives from our clients engineering and operational teams.
- Undertake Site Acceptance Testing for major items of plant (from LV up to and including 33kV Transmission Level: Circuit Breakers, Transformers, P&C Panels, AVC, etc.).
- Commission and maintain HV & LV power distribution systems in a safe and cost effective manner, ensuring design and specification meet testing requirements – including electrical pressure testing (transformers, switchgear, cables), relay secondary injection testing, primary injection testing, and maintenance of LV and HV OCB/VCB/ACBs.
- Produce accurate test documentation and records for hand‑over to management, included in test packages to be handed over to clients.
- Maintain wide knowledge of new and old protection relays (Alstom, Schneider, Siemens) including settings input, PSL, CFC and logic diagrams.
- Read schematic drawings and fault find equipment.
- Work involves traveling and working away from home across the whole of the UK.
- Commission, interface, and set to work equipment including LV switchgear (Brush, Schneider), HV switchgear (Siemens, Schneider and legacy types), and substation ancillary systems (battery chargers, local control interface panels, HMI, LV AC supplies, comms, SCADA control panels).
- Prepare installation cable schedules and core sheets.
- Demonstrate commissioned plant to the client’s representatives to gain plant sign‑off.
- Complete commissioning records ensuring all progress and equipment settings are recorded for the O&M manuals.
About You
- Familiar with distribution and transmission (up to 33kV) level protection systems.
- Knowledge of Omicron numerical protection test equipment is an advantage.
- Experience with Schneider/GE (Agile) or Siemens (Digsi 4 & 5) software packages is distinct advantage.
- Ability to supervise and advise site installation teams on aspects of protection installation.
