We are recruiting a dynamic Band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our Trust-wide specialist neuro rotation. This permanent rotation offers experience across Stroke, Neurosciences, Major Trauma, and both inpatient and community Neurorehabilitation services, providing a unique opportunity to develop specialist neurological rehabilitation skills across a diverse range of clinical settings.
Occupational Therapists are integral members of our multidisciplinary teams, playing a vital role in supporting patients with complex neurological conditions to achieve rehabilitation goals. As a Band 6 Occupational Therapist, you will deliver high-quality, evidence-based assessment and intervention for patients with a wide range of neurological presentations.
Substantive opportunities may be available on the Band 6 General Rotation and fixed-term opportunities may also be available.
Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality Occupational Therapy to patients at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
- Participate in a cross-site rotational scheme, delivering high standard of care to patients within the neurosciences rotations. Conduct comprehensive OT assessments for patients with diverse and complex neurological conditions and develop and deliver individualized treatment programmes.
- Manage a significant, complex clinical caseload as an autonomous practitioner at a specialist level alongside MDT colleagues.
- Lead on complex discharge planning for neurological patients, collaborating with community teams, external agencies and social care.
- Support service development within the team and contribute to policy and service changes in partnership with the MDT.
- Participate in clinical audit, research, and service evaluation to ensure the service remains evidence-based.
- Act as a positive and inspirational role model, supervising Band 3, 4, and 5 staff and participating in practice placements.
- Demonstrate commitment to clinical governance by managing risk, maintaining high standards of documentation, and ensuring safe practice in line with RCOT and Trust policies.

Qualifications & Experience
- Professional qualification in Occupational Therapy
- HCPC registration
- Adequate level of English to fulfil job requirements
- Evidence of post-qualification CPD relevant to the role
- Membership of BAOT/ COT
- Membership of a RCOT SSNP
- Practice placement course
- Course in prescription of wheelchairs and seating
Experience
- Experience working with patients with neurological conditions
- Ability to work in a team – OT and multidisciplinary
- Ability to treat patients individually and in groups
- Ability to manage a clinical caseload and cope with pressures and prioritisation of caseload
- Skills in managing mental health issues associated with the clinical caseload
- Make prompt decisions based on knowledge/experience and circumstances
- Ability to reflect on and critically appraise own performance
- Appreciation of the sensitivity and complexity of patients’ culture and diversity and ability to provide services appropriate to individuals’ needs
- Ability to receive and impart sensitive information related to disability and loss of function
- Deal with distressing situations involving profound disability, life threatening situations, bereavement and/or death
- Positively manage exposure to patients and environments which may be highly distressing, antagonistic, open to aggression and unpleasant
- Maintain confidentiality with regards to patients, staff and other health service business
- Experience of giving supervision
- Experience in rehabilitation environments
- Experience in teaching others
Skills/knowledge/abilities
- Assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of occupational therapy intervention with patients with neurological conditions
- Liaison with professional colleagues, carers and relatives in the hospital and community
- Experience with specialist neurological assessments & intervention e.g. standardised cognitive assessments, complex postural management, complex tone management, PDOC assessment
- Experience in reading, understanding and critiquing relevant evidence base and implement in to clinical practice
