Job Description:

Our client, an industry leader in maritime training, is seeking a Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering Instructor – Fitter and Turner to join their permanent team at Portsmouth. This role is part of a major project initiative, which aims to modernise marine training to deliver Royal Navy engineers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivering workshop theory and practical instruction to Service and Civilian trainees to Foundation Degree/Defence standards
  • Preparing course documentation, assessing tests and examinations, and developing new course material
  • Maintaining and repairing training equipment and training aids
  • Providing subject matter expertise on courses delivered
  • Liaising with external authorities, ships, establishments, and other military units to provide technical support and advice
  • Working collaboratively within the marine project to ensure successful training delivery

Job Requirements:

  • Recognised apprenticeship or relevant training in fitting and turning processes, and recent experience in workshop skills
  • Experience in fitting, turning, milling, and grinding, along with the ability to interpret engineering drawings in accordance with BS8888
  • Minimum of five years post‑apprenticeship experience in a relevant working environment
  • Ability to provide evidence of ability, experience, and qualifications

Desirable Skills:

  • Previous experience in a training/instructional role, though training in Defence instructional techniques will be provided
  • Experience in Computer‑Aided Design (CAD)
