As a Frontier Engineer, you’re not just writing code; you’re the bridge between product and customer, solving ambiguous, real-world problems at the edge of the system. This isn’t a pure software role, nor is it just a field engineer position. You’ll own solutions end-to-end, from understanding a vague customer need to deploying full-stack software and configuring hardware on-site. You’ll join a high-autonomy team that thrives on converting ambiguity into clear, deployed solutions.
The work
- Define and scope complex, ambiguous customer problems, translating vague needs into concrete technical solutions.
- Architect and build full-stack features: from Python backend services and data pipelines to new TypeScript UI components.
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot hardware on-site, integrating new capabilities into existing sensor networks.
- Act as a critical feedback loop, surfacing direct customer insights to product and engineering teams.
- Spend up to half your time directly with customers, ensuring successful deployments and building lasting relationships.
What You Bring
- A track record of delivering real-world technical solutions in highly ambiguous environments, where requirements were not handed to you.
- Direct experience working with customers, including on-site deployments, and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
- Strong full-stack engineering skills, comfortable across Python backends, TypeScript frontends, and Linux hardware configuration.
- A resourceful, pragmatic approach to problem-solving, making deliberate trade-offs and prioritizing ruthlessly to ship value.
