This is a great opportunity to join the citywide Sensory Impairment Team and play a key role in providing an exceptional service for people living with sight loss.

The Sensory Impairment Team work with adults who are visually impaired, hard of hearing, deaf or deafblind. We are a supportive team comprised of Rehabilitation Officers (Visual Impairment), an Equipment and Rehabilitation Officer, Social Workers and Customer Services Officers. With this range of skills and knowledge we work together to find creative solutions to improve the service we provide.

We provide support, advice and rehabilitation to Bristol citizens in line with the Care Act 2014. We apply a strengths-based approach throughout our work and are committed to supporting Bristol citizens to maximise their independence and achieve their goals. We provide advice and support to other professionals and work closely with health and community partners.

In your role as a Rehabilitation Officer, you will:

  • Undertake specialist rehabilitation assessments in partnership with the visually impaired person.
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate rehabilitation programmes, including orientation and mobility training, that promote independence and safety.
  • Teach daily living and communications skills including, though not limited to, meal preparation, home management, low vision skills and technology-based skills.
  • Identify, provide, and demonstrate safe use of specialist visual impairment equipment as appropriate, or provide advice on private purchase of equipment.
  • Contribute to case discussions with colleagues and provide information and advice to other professionals and organisations.
  • Contribute to the evaluation and improvement ofserviceswe provide in accordance with relevant legislation and policies.
  • Undertake partnership work with community organisations.
  • Have a full induction, regularsupervision and opportunities for training andcontinuous professional development.
