Colo Physical Security Architect, Colocation Regional Engineering

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and equipment that keep customers connected. This role focuses on ensuring safe, secure, and resilient colocation data center facilities across the EMEA region.

Responsibilities

• Lead designs (construction drawings and specifications) for physical security elements—cameras, access control, intrusion detection, fences, gates, and related components—for Colo Data Center (DC) projects.
• Collaborate with internal security teams to develop design standards, evaluate cost, risk, and benefit trade‑offs, and facilitate design discussions.
• Communicate conceptual designs to internal stakeholders, external partners, and consultants.
• Maintain basis of design (BOD) documents, prototype designs, and template specifications for Colo physical security elements.
• Create security design scope of work for Colo DC project Requests for Proposal (RFPs).
• Review and direct the work of Colo physical security engineering design consultants.
• Manage multiple fast‑paced projects simultaneously.
• Travel to site assessments, internal design meetings, construction reviews, and interactions with design consultants (travel <25% of the time).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Experience in industrial or commercial engineering for mission‑critical facilities such as data centers, power generation, or oil and gas.
• Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment and facilities.
• Experience in commissioning.
• Working knowledge of physical security principles and Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED).

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer License.
• Experience with building codes and regulations for your region.
• Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment or mass production.
• Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.
• ASIS Physical Security Professional (PSP) certification.
• Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) certification.
