Responsibilities
- Prepare, transport, and personally care for the deceased with professionalism and dignity.
- Maintain positive relationships with clients and the community, supporting them in person, over the phone, and during family visits.
- Manage the cleanliness, safety, and welcoming environment of the funeral home.
- Report and record any maintenance issues.
- Operate digital systems and devices (computers, tablets, smartphones) to manage client documentation, funeral arrangements, invoicing, and regulatory reporting.
- Sell and inform clients about funeral plans, ensuring compliance with all regulations.
- Assist in the manual handling of coffins and the preparation of the deceased for viewings and viewings, including hair, makeup, and other general responsibilities.
- Update client management applications with accurate and timely information.
Qualifications
- Full UK driver’s licence.
- Empathy, great customer‑service skills, and the ability to build trusting relationships.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Basic numeracy: cash handling, discount calculations, data entry, and invoicing.
- Attention to detail and a keen eye for accuracy.
- IT competency: ability to use a range of technology devices and systems, and to learn new applications.
- Physical ability to move coffins and perform other physical tasks.
- For Embalmer roles: an official BIE qualification (or enrolment on an apprenticeship programme).
