Job Title: Consultant Social Workers (All Children’s Teams)

Starting Salary: £46,731 per annum + £6,924 market enhanced payment, progressing to £51,802 per annum + £6,768 market enhanced payment PLUS £1k one off welcome payment* – pay award pending

Hours: 37

Location: Base locations in Stevenage (East) and Apsley, Hemel Hempstead (West). Each team covers a geographic area requiring regular access to a vehicle for meetings.

About the Role

Each team consists of a Team Manager, Consultant Social Workers, Senior Practitioners, Social Workers, Children’s Practitioners and Family Practitioners. The role involves holding a small caseload of complex work, conducting supervision meetings, supporting team members, and providing management cover in the Team Manager’s absence. Development into a management role is supported.

Vacancies in the following teams

  • Youth Justice Team – Stevenage, 37 hours, Fixed Term to Aug 2027. Manages a small team of Senior Practitioners, Social Workers and Adolescent Practitioners and specialist workers; not a case‑holding position.
  • Specialist Adolescent Service (SASH) – Hemel Hempstead, 37 hours, Permanent.

About You

  • Qualified and Social Work England Registered
  • Comprehensive knowledge of challenges associated with working with children and their families
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of legislation, guidance, policy and procedures
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Regular access to a vehicle

Additional criteria by team

Youth Justice

  • Thorough knowledge of Youth Justice and court experience

SASH

  • Experience of working with children experiencing extra familial harm.
