The Pool Driver/Loader (Trade) role involves working as part of Cardiff Council’s Trade Waste service, collecting waste and recycling from businesses across the city. The job includes driving a range of vehicles such as refuse trucks, skip lorries, and vans, as well as loading and unloading waste and delivering bins and containers.
The role requires following set routes, using handheld technology to record collections and report issues, and ensuring all work is carried out safely and in line with regulations. It also involves interacting with customers in a professional manner, completing daily vehicle and tachograph checks, and working outdoors in all weather conditions as part of a team focused on maintaining a reliable and efficient service.
What We Are Looking For From You
The Council is looking for someone who is reliable, responsible, and able to work effectively as part of a team in a busy operational environment.
You must hold a valid Class C (HGV) driving licence, along with a digital tachograph card and DCPC qualification, and have experience driving large goods vehicles.
A good understanding of driver’s hours and tachograph regulations is essential, as well as the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
You should have basic literacy skills to complete paperwork and be confident using handheld technology such as smartphones or tablets.
The role also requires a strong focus on health and safety, a commitment to delivering excellent customer service, and the ability to remain patient and respectful when dealing with the public and colleagues.
Flexibility is important, as you may be required to work across different depots, vehicles, and working patterns, including weekends and bank holidays.
