We are seeking an experienced and motivated ICT Cyber Security Specialist to support the delivery of the Trust’s cyber security capability across a large, complex and clinically critical digital environment. The role plays an important part in protecting core ICT services, clinical systems, patient data and other Trust services by ensuring cyber risks are actively identified, analysed and managed.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and respond to cyber security alerts and notifications, investigate security events, and conduct technical analysis of systems and logs to identify vulnerabilities and reduce risk.
- Manage and maintain cyber security systems, records and registers, and contribute to audits, risk assessments, business impact assessments and incident response activities.
- Support mandatory cyber assurance frameworks, maintain audit readiness, and contribute to the development and review of cyber security policies, procedures and incident response plans.
- Provide specialist cyber security advice, support security due diligence for projects and third‑party access, and contribute to staff awareness and training initiatives.
- Manage competing priorities, support business continuity activities, keep up to date with national and NHS cyber guidance, and work collaboratively with colleagues across ICT, Information Governance and the wider Trust.
- Work occasionally during out‑of‑hours and, when required, in limited clinical areas.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education to degree level or equivalent IT qualification, or equivalent experience, with a commitment to continuing professional development.
- Minimum one year of experience in an ICT security role, with prior NHS experience preferred.
- Experience in a technical support role and proven ability to analyse and support IT systems.
- Demonstrated skills in interrogating and analysing complex logs and data.
- Knowledge of and experience with a variety of security systems and software.
- Strong communication skills, able to collaborate with varied teams and departments at all levels.
- Proficient in MS Office, particularly Word and Excel.
- Clear understanding of ICT security governance, data protection, and relevant regulations.
- Knowledge of NHS Digital Data Security and Protection Toolkit, Cyber Essentials Plus, ISO 27001 and national cyber security guidance (NCSC 10 Steps to Cyber Security).
- Logical, methodical approach with problem‑solving aptitude, strong attention to detail, and determination to resolve matters.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and advanced keyboard skills.
- Ability to manage workload, re‑prioritise under changing demands, meet targets and deadlines, and work out of hours when required.
- Willingness to contribute ideas and improve processes, and ability to build productive relationships with staff and key partners.
