Job Description Consultant Gastroenterologist n Role Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Consultant Gastroenterologist to join our dynamic team at Northampton General Hospital. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a thriving gastroenterology department, providing expert care to patients with gastrointestinal disorders. As a Consultant Gastroenterologist, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality clinical services, participating in multidisciplinary team meetings, and contributing to the ongoing development of gastroenterology services within the Trust. n Key Responsibilities: n n n Provide comprehensive gastroenterology services, including diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with gastrointestinal disorders. n n Perform endoscopic procedures, such as gastroscopy, colonoscopy, and ERCP, to a high standard. n n Participate in on-call rotas, providing emergency gastroenterology care as required. n n Engage in clinical governance activities, including audit, research, and quality improvement projects. n n Contribute to the training and development of junior doctors, medical students, and other healthcare professionals. n n Attend and actively participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and clinical governance meetings. n n Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in accordance with Trust policies. n n Required Qualifications and Experience: n n n Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a license to practice. n n Completion of higher specialist training in Gastroenterology. n n CCST or CCT in Gastroenterology or equivalent. n n Experience in performing endoscopic procedures to a high standard. n n Evidence of ongoing professional development and commitment to continuing medical education. n n Desirable Skills: n n n Experience in advanced endoscopic techniques, such as endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and capsule endoscopy. n n Interest or experience in specific areas of gastroenterology, such as inflammatory bowel disease, hepatology, or functional gastrointestinal disorders. n n Experience in clinical research and publication in peer-reviewed journals. n n Leadership experience or participation in clinical governance activities. n n Compliance Requirements: n n n Up-to-date DBS check. n n Completion of NHS mandatory training, including safeguarding, infection control, and equality and diversity training. n n Adherence to GMC guidance and professional standards. n n What the Trust Offers: n n n A supportive and collaborative working environment with a commitment to professional development and career progression. n n Access to state-of-the-art facilities and equipment to support high-quality patient care. n n Opportunities for research and academic collaboration with local universities and research institutions. n n A comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, pension scheme, and opportunities for flexible working. n n Commitment to work-life balance and staff wellbeing, with access to employee assistance programmes and wellness initiatives. n n Join us at Northampton General Hospital and be part of a team dedicated to providing exceptional gastroenterology care to our patients.
