Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Assistant
Fixed term contract/ secondment opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant (Band 4) to join our Adult Speech and Language Therapy team here at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital on a fixed term basis until 31st March 2027.

Job responsibilities
- Work under the supervision of qualified Speech and Language Therapists carrying out a variety of clinical and non-clinical duties to support the delivery of SLT intervention to patients across Acute and Head and Neck Cancer services.
- Join a supportive and motivated team, who are enthusiastic, innovative and committed to evidence‑based practice. Regular team meetings, support and supervision ensure a high quality of service is provided.
- Assist the SLT team on a daily basis in supporting adult clients with acquired communication and swallowing disorders under the guidance of qualified SLT colleagues.
- Work independently with clients to carry out specified therapy activities and interventions set down by qualified SLT colleagues.
- Produce clinical materials, therapy resources, leaflets and communication charts/books under the direction of Speech & Language Therapy colleagues using a range of IT programmes.
- Work closely not only with SLTs but also the wider Multidisciplinary Teams and other professionals, including joint working where appropriate.
Qualifications
- NVQ Level IV, BTEC national diploma, foundation degree or Higher National Diploma in a healthcare related subject.
Experience
- Experience working independently with people with physical and/or emotional needs arising from health conditions.
- Experience working with people with impaired ability to communicate.
Skills
- Able to develop the confidence to work independently and recognise when to seek advice.
- Basic knowledge of assessment and therapeutic interventions for acquired communication and swallowing disorders.

Remuneration
£28,392 to £31,157 a year, pro rata
