Senior Test Engineer – Brighton, United Kingdom
This senior role enables you to guide, mentor, and lead less experienced engineers to achieve efficient completion of tasks and on‑time delivery, while contributing to higher‑level project scheduling and detailed planning for test results.
About the Role
As part of L3Harris Release Systems & Antennas division operating in the aerospace domain, you will design, develop, and implement test systems, fixtures and hardware for airworthiness certification of mission‑critical release equipment used on major airborne fighter platforms such as the F‑35, Gripen and Typhoon.
Key Responsibilities
- Create type‑approval test plans to satisfy customer specifications and related standards.
- Develop detailed qualification test procedures and conduct required tests.
- Prepare qualification test reports supporting airworthiness certification (DDP/Certificate of Design).
- Support internal and customer design reviews throughout the development life cycle.
- Provide analysis of test results and support trade studies.
- Verify interface control documents, compatibility of physical and functional interfaces and first‑article production integration.
- Investigate and implement solutions to product, process or test problems.
- Analyze requirements for integration and/or testability.
- Develop and implement both hardware and software system‑level test programmes.
- Design, develop and implement cost‑effective procedures for testing and troubleshooting sub‑assemblies, assemblies and systems.
- Enhance and develop test facilities and capabilities.
Required Experience & Skills
- 5+ years in related industry with hons degree in mechanical engineering.
- Experience in test system design and implementation.
- Test fixture design and electro‑mechanical testing.
- High‑pressure pneumatics (400 bar) using bottled inert gas, compressors and boost pumps.
- LabVIEW software and data‑acquisition equipment.
- Sensor integration (accelerometers, load cells, pressure transducers, LVDT).
- High‑speed cameras.
- Hoists & lifting equipment (2000 kg).
- Environmental testing (temperature, humidity, vibration, sand/dust, salt fog, EMC/EMI, ESS).
- Diagnosis of faults/issues and feedback of test results into design process.
- Standard laboratory equipment (multimeters, verniers).
- Desirable: Automating test cell design/creation, hydraulic/electrical actuators, electrical design, vibration rigs (LDS V8900), Diadem data analysis, CAD (SolidWorks).
- Knowledge of reliability & FMECA, MIL‑STD‑810 & DEF STAN 00‑35.
- Strong analytical, methodical, and organized skills.
- Excellent communication and credibility.
- Attention to detail, IT proficiency, team player, calm under pressure.
