Responsibilities
- Play an active role in the delivery of the Council’s regeneration programme, which is central to the Torbay Story and to the Council’s economic growth strategy.
- Manage a proactive professional team who possess detailed knowledge of the condition and composition of Torbay’s buildings, bridges, drainage infrastructure, retaining structures and cliffs and coastal assets — ensuring a safe environment is maintained.
- Respond to Engineering safety matters, Member enquiries and the concerns of Torbay’s residents quickly, professionally and proportionately.
- Provide practical and informative technical advice to Planners, Regeneration Partners, Torbay Harbour Authority, Housing, Estates and delivery teams at the early stages of project development.
- Provide high-quality, economic, low carbon and sustainable Civil and Structural Engineering consultancy services across a diverse range of projects to support Torbay Council’s Capital Programme.
- Ensure a focused, value-for-money approach to the planning, design and delivery of priority projects, to maximise the benefits of our internal resources.
- The role will see you mentor and support the development of other engineers and technicians, working towards attainment of professional status through the teams Career Grade Progression Scheme.
Qualifications
- Ability to effectively manage, motivate and lead multi-faceted teams to deliver numerous, often large, complex projects concurrently.
- Ability to work flexibly whilst quickly getting to grips with new areas and to encourage others to do so.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines ensuring projects are delivered to specification on time and within budget.
- Demonstrable experience of both private and public sector schemes.
- Forward thinker who is able to identify the potential risks associated with a project and recommend/initiate solutions.
- This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.
