Role Overview

In this key role, you will contribute directly to delivering a high‑quality, patient‑focused lung cancer screening service. You will conduct Lung Health Check (LHC) risk assessments, both virtually and face‑to‑face, to identify high‑risk patients and refer them for low‑dose CT scanning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist nursing advice and support during LHC assessments.
  • Refer patients for low‑dose CT scans following IR(ME)R training and accreditation.
  • Review prior imaging records before making CT referrals.
  • Operate autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in audits and data collection to ensure programme quality.
  • Educate patients and carers on health promotion, offer brief smoking cessation advice and refer to local services.
  • Support team members and uphold high standards of patient care.
  • Provide culturally sensitive care for diverse patient populations.
  • Collaborate with other health professionals to ensure a seamless care pathway.
  • Communicate effectively with clinicians as required.
  • Ensure safety of the public and staff at community sites.
  • Promote efficient use of resources and act on clinical findings promptly.
  • Adhere to the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Conduct and guidelines.
  • Maintain professional registration and report incidents through the TIC Health reporting system.
  • Keep accurate records per NMC and TIC Health guidelines.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience working as an autonomous practitioner with clinical judgement and decision‑making.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise own workload and that of the team.
  • Knowledgeable clinician able to apply evidence‑based practice.
  • Excellent IT skills.
  • Working knowledge of respiratory equipment (e.g., inhalers, spirometers).
  • Understanding of health inequalities and respiratory nursing experience.
  • Ability to assess and complete risk assessments, working within scope of practice.
  • Experience with audit, compliance, and knowledge of the lung cancer pathway.
  • Registered with the NMC, Band 6, qualified with evidence of ongoing CPD.
  • Spirometry qualification, IRMER training, consent training.
