Simpsons Malt are the UK’s leading, independent malting Company, with 150+ years ofsuccessfulsupply to brewers and distillers with a customer range from the smallest craft & micro brewers to multi-nationals in the UK and around the world.

Our Tivetshall Maltings site, between Norwich and Diss, has and continues to receivesignificant investment.Its USP is in the production of a range ofquality speciality and base maltsfor the brewing industry-with an increasing world wideexport business.

This is a challenging production site, with7X24 batch processingand a wide range of plant and equipment that includes older(tried and tested) driers, dressers, elevators & conveyors as well as new(state of the art) PLC controlledroasting ovens & germinating vessels. This role is very much focussed on the back end of the process and will own the area that bags and palletisers product, stores in to racking and then managers the load of trucks and containers for our customers in the UK and abroad. There is a huge quality focus as you are the gatekeeper for our customers. In line with this investment program and our increasing focus on continuous improvement activity, we also need to grow our site management team.

This role will potentially join a team of Production Managers who work on a Monday to Friday basis, but have 7X24, 360 degree responsibility for different areas of the production process/site. You will ensure aquality product, motivate and maintain the health and safety of the operators in your area and actively seek to improve processes, equipment and performance against a range of metrics. While days based, there will be a requirement to take out of hours calls and there is a weekend rota with the rest of the management team to ensure site staff can gain advice and quality judgements be made.

While people management will always be important to a production manager role, this is a process driven site with a requirement to gain/grow knowledge around the science of malting in order to deliver the value added that our customers expect.

The site issafety and quality drivenand so the way work is done will take precedence over just producing the numbers to satisfy customer demands.

Qualifications and Skills

It is likely that the successful candidate will haveleadership experiencewithin a manufacturing operation. A malting background/experience could be advantageous with such atechnical process,but this role specifically has a lot in common with roles in warehousing and fmcg operations. You will very much need to show that you are willing totakeownershipand drive forward, taking your team with you in a structured way to achieve improved performance. Any knowledge aroundlean manufacturing toolswould be useful.

Communication skillswill be important for the successful candidate along with acontinuous improvementmentality-you will be described by colleagues as a problem solver,dedicated,a good team member,focused andhelpful.
