Digital Services Senior Network Engineer – Band 6

We are recruiting for an exciting opportunity within Digital Services to join the Infrastructure team in delivering an edge network and firewallrefresh across all Lincolnshire community sites.

Main duties of the job

This role requires strong field engineering skills, and the confidence to troubleshoot technical issues, including liaising with third parties when necessary. Accuracy in documentation and record-keeping is essential, and you will be expected to uphold a consistently high professional standard.

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Attending sites across Lincolnshire to replace network hardware
  • Ensuring all software and clinical applications function correctly after device replacement
  • Providing support and guidance to delivery technicians working alongside you

Grantham and District Hospital serves the communities of Grantham and the local area. It provides ambulatory paediatric and accident and emergency services.

Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust (LCHS) and United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT) have come together in a Group arrangement, with the goal of improving the care provided to patients across the county.

This will not constitute a formal merger of the two organisations, but will bring the Trusts together under a single Board and Executive Leadership Team, with the goal of improving the care that is provided to patients both in the community and in hospitals across Lincolnshire. Both Trusts will retain their separate statutory names and legal obligations.

The Group will be known as Lincolnshire Community and Hospitals NHS Group (LCHG).

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • HNC/HND preferably in a relevant technical subject
  • Degree, preferably in a relevant technical subject

Previous Experience

  • Network +
  • Holds relevant industry qualification ie Cisco CCNA, CCNP

Evidence of Particular Knowledge, skills and Aptitudes

  • Knowledge of modern data communications infrastructures – Gigabit Ethernet, fast Ethernet and Ethernet technologies
  • Experience working as part of a team
  • Knowledge of network protocols – TCPIP, RIP, DHCP, DNS etc
  • Good maintenance and fault finding skills
  • Good reasoning skills and ambition
  • Good Analytical skills
  • Ability to plan and prioritise own workload
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to use own initiative
  • Good inter-personnel and communication skills
  • Applying quality standards to all tasks undertaken and ensuring that nothing is overlooked
  • Knowledge of the Data Protection Act 1984 to ensure confidentiality
  • Working knowledge of firewall and security management
  • Working knowledge of layer 2/3 networking principles
  • Ability to accumulate, source and evaluate a range of information
  • Ability to assess the needs for the future needs of the service
  • To continually strive towards cross-skilling in order further personal development
  • Flexibility, adaptability and the ability to deal with change
  • To keep up-to-date with trends and advances in IT both within the general IT market and the NHS

  • Mobile, able to travel to other sites to provide support
