About the Night Support Assistant Role
The Night Support Assistant will work in our supported accommodation service for young people aged 16 and over in Camden, London. The role involves providing a steady, trusted presence during night‑time hours, keeping the service safe, calm and welcoming, and supporting young people who may be distressed or struggling.
Key responsibilities include:
- Completing welfare checks;
- Responding to incidents or emergencies;
- Monitoring building safety and maintaining accurate records;
- Recording and handing over key information to the day team;
- Supporting young people and ensuring the service runs smoothly until the day team arrives.
The position follows a rolling rota pattern:
- Week 1 – 40 hrs: Mon, Tues, Sat, Sun, 10 pm–8:30 am
- Week 2 – 30 hrs: Wed, Thu, Fri, 10 pm–8:30 am
Skills and Experience
- Experience supporting young people or young adults facing homelessness, risk, trauma or multiple disadvantage, ideally within accommodation or frontline support settings.
- Comfortable working awake night shifts and keeping the service safe, calm and welcoming overnight.
- Ability to respond calmly to challenging behaviour, safeguarding concerns or incidents, adapting the approach to individual needs.
- Proficiency in keeping accurate records, using basic IT systems and handling numerical information as part of safe service delivery.
- Reliability, resilience and a thoughtful approach, with flexibility to work a night rota that includes weekends and bank holidays.
