Deliver the engineering roadmap for our squad and drive technical strategy within the team while ensuring alignment with the overall business strategy. You will ensure non‑functional requirements such as performance and security are considered and met throughout the product development lifecycle. Your role includes resolving complex technical challenges, providing guidance to other team members, mentoring fellow engineers, leading projects and initiatives, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the Engineering team.
Responsibilities
- Deliver the engineering roadmap for the squad and align it with business strategy.
- Ensure non‑functional requirements (performance, security, etc.) are met throughout the development lifecycle.
- Resolve complex technical challenges and provide guidance to teammates.
- Mentor and support the development of other engineers.
- Lead projects and initiatives, ensuring successful delivery and execution.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the Engineering team.
Experience and Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as a Ruby developer with detailed knowledge of Ruby on Rails in a production environment.
- Front‑end development experience using Angular or React.
- Experience working with RESTful APIs, version control (GitHub), CI tools (CodeBuild), and testing tools such as RSpec, Cucumber, or similar.
- Experience with distributed service architectures, including testing, releasing, and maintaining system stability when making changes independently of other services.
- Proficiency in observability tooling to understand, diagnose, improve, debug, measure, and visualise platform health.
- Up‑to‑date with emerging technologies, including AI and machine learning for personalisation or process automation.
- Ability to break down complex problems into incremental, manageable, valuable chunks.
- Collaborative, data‑driven, and experimental mindset, capable of fostering this approach in others.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with non‑technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated leadership, mentorship, and coaching experience.
- Preferred experience in a fast‑growing, consumer‑facing startup or scaleup.
- Flexibility and enthusiasm for working with a variety of languages and frameworks.
