The post holder will deputise for the Head of the Disability and Dyslexia Service and Inclusive Practice where appropriate, using expertise and leadership skills to act on their behalf for issues which relate to disability provision and inclusive practice for students at Queen Mary University of London. They will work closely with the DDS Frontline Services Manager to oversee the day‑to‑day operational running of the service, with line management responsibility for Disability Advisers and Specialist 1:1 Study Skills Tutor within the Service – at the time of writing this is around six colleagues. The post-holder will have extensive knowledge and experience of a highly complex range of student‑based issues and will provide expert advice, guidance and support to disabled students, including students with specific learning differences such as dyslexia and students with mental health diagnoses. In addition to their own caseload, they will also act as an escalation point to support colleagues with complex cases.
The Disability and Dyslexia Service is part of the Student Experience directorate and is Queen Mary University of London’s chief vehicle for the implementation of support, including reasonable adjustments, for more than 3,800 disabled students. As such, the service ensures that the university meets its obligations under the Equality Act (2010) and its strategic aims as they relate to student support and inclusivity.
