Responsibilities

  • Planning and preparing courses and lessons.
  • Teaching pupils according to their educational needs, including setting and marking work.
  • Assessing, recording and reporting on pupils’ development, progress and attainment.
  • Promoting the general progress and well‑being of individual pupils, providing advice and guidance on educational and social matters, career planning and making relevant records.
  • Communicating and consulting with parents and relevant external bodies as approved.
  • Participating in meetings, staff development schemes, performance reviews and professional development arrangements.
  • Maintaining good order and discipline, safeguarding health and safety, and participating in relevant school meetings.
  • Preparing pupils for public examinations, assessing and reporting, and supervising examinations.
  • Contributing to the selection and development of other teachers, coordinating or managing their work, and supervising support staff.
  • Attending assemblies, registering attendance, supervising pupils and performing related duties.
  • Adhering to working hours: full‑time teachers available for 195/190 days and 1,265 hours.
  • Ensuring required breaks and supervising requirements as specified.
  • Providing staff cover as required in accordance with enrolment provisions.

Person Specification – Essential Criteria

  • Qualifications: hold a teaching qualification recognized in grant‑aided schools in Northern Ireland; hold a degree or equivalent Level 6 qualification relevant to Key Stage 3.
  • Experience: demonstrable experience of teaching Key Stage 2 or 3 pupils, using varied strategies, digital media, and initial teacher training is acceptable.
  • Must be registered with the GTCNI before taking up the post.
  • Knowledge: Northern Ireland Curriculum; safeguarding & child protection; SEND code; range of teaching strategies; IT systems; assessment methods.
  • Skills: effective teaching and classroom management, inclusive learning environment, teamwork, motivation, communication with pupils, parents and community.
  • Values: alignment with the school’s values/ethos.
  • Disclosure: Enhanced Disclosure of Criminal Background required; applicant will cover cost.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience in monitoring pupil progress, target setting, interventions and delivering extracurricular activities.
