Responsibilities
- Deliver drug and alcohol clinical and prescribing services to the service population.
- Conduct clinical assessment with or without prescribing a range of medications (including controlled drugs) to support recovery in line with national and organisational guidelines and policies.
- Prescribe cost‑effectively and according to best practice; provide prescribing information and advice to pharmacists, shared care GPs and hospital staff.
- Undertake service user‑centred assessments, care planning, monitoring, evaluation and reviews in practice and outreach settings.
- Manage Blood Borne Virus (BBV) risk assessment, pre‑ and post‑test counselling, testing and immunisation.
- Deliver health promotion and harm reduction interventions (e.g., safer sex, contraception, nutrition and healthy living).
- Promote and deliver immunisation against Hepatitis B in line with national guidance.
- Maintain client clinical database: co‑coordinate data entry and retrieval searches and reports to meet internal and external service requirements; ensure data security.
- Liaise with pharmacists regarding supervised dispensing and prescription queries.
- Share care with GPs for Service Users in Primary Care Extended Services (PCES)/Primary Care Recovery Services (PCRS).
- Deliver clinical interventions across hubs in different locations and provide outreach as required.
- Engage in continuing professional development, clinical supervision, performance appraisals and attend training as/when required.
- Work in accordance with all relevant legislation, best practice policies & procedures, and guidelines (both internal and external).
- Participate in audit processes and promote service‑wide or local clinical audit; implement findings/changes where indicated.
- Ensure all serious incidents (including deaths in service) are reported and implement any service changes arising.
- Disseminate learning across the service and the organisation as appropriate.
- Provide support and assistance to other Humankind substance misuse services during mobilisation.
- Collaborate on clinical governance, review and implementation of policies and guidelines.
- Assist in and maintain involvement with national and local research projects as appropriate.
- Keep abreast of policy and professional development within your area of professional expertise.

Qualifications & Experience
- Independent Prescriber qualification (RCGP). Level 1 (and Level 2 or willingness to work towards).
- Experience of working within substance misuse (desirable).
- First level Registered Nurse or Registered Pharmacist, Independent Prescriber qualified.
- Proficient in Microsoft Outlook Office programmes.
- Experience of entering complex information onto an electronic/clinical database.
- Experience delivering evidence‑based treatments in Substance Misuse.
- Previous experience carrying out general health care assessment including BBV; delivering health promotion/harm reduction interventions, advice and information.
- Aware of the social context of drug misuse and its wider implications.
- Understanding of complexities of primary health care and the constraints and opportunities inherent in the primary care sector.
- Aware and experienced of principles of Audit.
- Understanding of drug misuse services available in public and voluntary services.
- Aware of national strategies impacting on drug and alcohol services and the role of Independent Prescriber.
- Understanding of differences between private and public sector roles and responsibilities.
