Assistant Therapy Practitioner

Are you interested in working in a flexible, forward‑thinking team? The Occupational Therapy team are looking for a band 4 Occupational Assistant Therapy Practitioner (ATP). Due to promotions we have three vacancies based at Kingsley Green (Radlett) and Albany Lodge (St Albans). This is an exciting opportunity for an independent and self‑sufficient practitioner who would like to help support people using our services to establish roles and routines, and interests while on the wards, as well as help identify occupational need.

We look for people excited to become part of our team and help us take forward developments around trauma‑informed care, positive behavioural support planning and sensory integration.

There is supervision by occupational therapists and an opportunity to apply for the funded OT apprenticeship.

Main duties of the job

  • You will form part of the supportive therapy team, working at Kingfisher Court or Albany Lodge to provide the OT service alongside a multidisciplinary team including arts therapists, physio, horticultural therapists and psychology.
  • You will be supported by experienced Occupational Therapists and the rest of the team to carry out specific individual work and facilitate a range of activity group interventions.
  • You will need to be able to work independently with Service Users to support them in developing and expanding their roles and routines. Experience of running groups would be advantageous.
  • Regular training opportunities will be available to build your skills in these areas and we encourage people to apply for the Occupational Therapy apprenticeship which is run at the University of Hertfordshire.
  • You will be part of a large and well‑established OT service and also link regularly with peers and other OT staff across the Trust.

Job responsibilities

  • To plan and facilitate occupational groups guided by an Occupational Therapist.
  • To work individually with service users on specific tasks and therapeutic activity guided by an Occupational Therapist.
  • To carry out our specific Occupational Therapy assessments as guided by an Occupational Therapist.
  • To promote a culture of engagement in meaningful occupation within the service in order to enhance quality of life.
  • To provide interventions in the manner that is consistent with Trust standards and values.

To work within the OT team to provide therapy provision on your allocated ward and on other wards as required. To be able to offer basic assessments to help identify occupational need and to contribute to people’s care plans. To provide 1:1 work and group work with service users, and to be able to work both independently and as part of a team.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Occupational Therapy role within setting
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office and associated packages
  • A Levels and/or Health and Social Care NVQ level 3 or equivalent
  • Degree in relevant subject

Experience

  • Experience of working with people with learning disabilities and/or mental health problems
  • Experience of leading groups and 1:1 interventions
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Experience of working in an OT related setting
  • Experience of service user and carer involvement in the development of services
  • Knowledge of Recovery principles
  • Functional Assessment Training
