As an AWS Cloud Security Architect, you will work closely with engineering teams and clients to implement secure, robust cloud environments using your cybersecurity expertise. You will be responsible for translating legal and regulatory requirements, combining them with industry best practices, and applying them directly to AWS workloads and tooling.
This is a pivotal role focused on driving a large-scale cloud migration journey and supporting new cloud-native projects. The ideal candidate embeds security by design and views security as a business enabler.
Core Duties & Responsibilities
- Architectural Leadership: Lead the development of secure architectures, patterns, and processes supporting a wide range of AWS services.
- Collaboration: Work closely with solution architects and cyber security specialists to translate complex concerns and requirements into cohesive designs.
- Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure cloud-based solutions meet legal and regulatory compliance. Perform threat modelling and risk assessments on AWS-hosted systems.
- Security Controls: Design and support the implementation of security controls to validate compliance and proactively prevent non-compliance.
- Consultancy & Mentorship: Provide guidance to development communities on secure cloud practices and serve as an escalation point for technical security concerns.
- Continuous Improvement: Continually seek opportunities to improve the overarching security posture and ensure practices remain accessible through documentation and reusable constructs.
Experience & Skills Required
- AWS Expertise: Recognized subject matter expertise in AWS cloud security architecture and design within large-scale, enterprise environments.
- Cyber Security Principles: Deep understanding of foundational principles, including encryption, secure network design, and application attack vectors.
- Frameworks & Regulations: Practical knowledge of industry standard frameworks (e.g., CIS AWS Foundations Benchmark, NIST, ISO 27001) and regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, PCI-DSS).
- AWS Guardrails: Solid understanding of core AWS principles (Networking, IAM) and hands‑on experience with native tools (KMS, GuardDuty, Macie, WAF).
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Proficiency in tools such as CloudFormation or Terraform.
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement skills, and a continuous learning mindset.
- Relevant industry certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Cloud Security Specialty, CISSP).
- Experience securing containerized workloads.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and nurturing technical talent.
