Job Description
Wood is recruiting for Project Engineers to support the delivery of engineering capital projects at our client site in Irvine, Scotland. This is a site‑based position, available on a staff or contract (inside IR35) basis, working directly at the client’s operating facility.
Overview
Our Project Engineers collaborate closely with the client to deliver capital projects from concept through completion, working with a multi‑disciplined engineering team consisting of Wood and client engineers, external designers, equipment vendors, and skilled contractors. The role demands flexibility in daily activities and covers infrastructure enhancements, building upgrades, and production line modifications within a Primary Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Facility.
Responsibilities
- Deliver capital projects from concept to completion in a pharmaceutical manufacturing context.
- Work closely with multi‑disciplinary teams, including Wood engineers, client staff, external designers, equipment vendors, and contractors.
- Apply Wood and client health and safety standards throughout the project lifecycle.
- Maintain safe working practices and manage safety issues through the design process.
- Lead multi‑disciplinary teams to deliver work packages in accordance with ISO‑compliant quality and environmental management systems.
- Manage work scope and interfaces between all engineering disciplines to ensure successful delivery of assigned work packages.
- Review vendor documents and identify problem areas.
- Handle commercial aspects, including change control and project contractual requirements.
- Control plant changes safely and manage project contractual and commercial requirements.
- Understand and apply GxP and ALCOA principles.
- Monitor and review engineering progress with Project Services and Engineering disciplines.
- Act as a focal point for assigned projects, expediting or resolving issues when required.
- Organise, attend, and prepare project reports.
- Apply CDM experience and knowledge.
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Plan, organise and execute projects, coordinating with Engineering, construction, HSE, procurement, subcontracting & project control.
- Collate actions and expedite closure of outstanding actions with appropriate disciplines.
- Leverage proven project engineering experience in the pharmaceutical, specialty chemicals, life sciences, petrochemical, process, or energy sectors.
Qualifications
- HND / Degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to apply health and safety standards and maintain safe working practices throughout the project lifecycle.
- Experience leading multi‑disciplinary project teams.
- Commercial awareness and experience with change control.
- Familiarity with project contractual and commercial requirements.
- Experience in plant change management in a controlled and safe manner.
- Understanding of GxP and ALCOA.
- Comprehensive knowledge of engineering progress monitoring methods.
- Strong communication, planning, organising and execution skills.
- Collaboration skills with Engineering, construction, HSE, procurement, subcontracting & project control.
- Proven experience in project engineering for the relevant industries.
Desirable
- Experience designing or operating manufacturing equipment, HVAC, chiller, granulation, medical devices, or packaging.
- Ability to integrate design schedule with procurement and/or fabrication schedules.
- Preparation and checking of scopes, specifications, procedures, and reports.
- Task delegation under Project Manager or Engineering Manager.
- Production of detailed execution plans.
- Preparation of project budgets and cost control during delivery.
- Forecasting manpower levels for the contract portfolio.
- Preparation of procurement strategies and sustained engagement with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Response to site queries from day‑to‑day operations.
- Engagement with multiple engineering disciplines.
- Demonstrable delivery experience through full project and validation life cycles (URS, DQ, IQ, OQ, PQ and handover).
- Leading multi‑disciplinary teams.
- Adaptability to changing priorities.
