Overview
The Data Centre Manager is a key position in the delivery of Telecoms Cabling Infrastructure Support Services to Onnec Group Clients. Reporting to the Service Delivery Manager, the Data Centre Manager will be site based and be responsible for the delivery of Moves, Adds and Changes (MAC) work and Business As Usual (BAU) works at a client Data Centre (in certain circumstances this may be multiple Data Centre and/or may include some Campus Sites). The Data Centre Manager is responsible for the planning and smooth implementation of the day to day activities for all Campus sites and for working with the client and Service Delivery Manager to improve operational systems, processes and procedures in support of enhanced service deliverables and management reporting.
Responsibilities
- Report & Administration: Submit regular reports, timesheets, and expenses within deadlines; maintain accurate documentation; track daily activities, task completion, incidents, and project status.
- Operations & Working Pattern: Support 24/7 data centre operations, including BAU and project work; work flexible hours as required; adhere to leave restrictions aligned with management coverage.
- Installations & Decommissioning: Install and remove racks, servers, hardware equipment; perform equipment restacking and relocation; decommission and remove redundant infrastructure; install power distribution units (PDUs); label equipment; patch network and connect equipment within racks.
- Cabling & Connectivity: Support cabling infrastructure and hardware connectivity; perform fault finding and testing with fluke test equipment.
- Asset Movement & Site Support: Move equipment across site locations, support mechanical and electrical provisioning with CRE teams, and perform component swaps.
- Data Centre Control & Monitoring: Conduct technology room inspections; assist with alarm investigations; identify and report redundant infrastructure.
- Access & Security Control: Manage visitor access to data centre environments; escort and supervise third parties and internal teams; support site security processes.
Qualifications
- Relevant experience working in banking IT environment and in a Data Centre Moves, Adds and Changes environment (IT hardware deployment).
- Extensive experience in structured cabling installation, fault finding and testing with fluke test equipment; thorough knowledge of structured cabling standards and cable types (FTP, UTP & optical fibre).
- Expert knowledge of Asset Management Systems, Ticketing Systems, and complex change management and service delivery processes.
- Prioritisation skills, multitasking ability, ability to work under pressure, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Self‑starter, organised, detailed‑oriented, with excellent MS Office Suite experience (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.).
- Experience supervising shift activities, leading special projects from design to handover, mentoring and training new starters on systems, processes and procedures, and approving or signing off training modules.
- Experience managing people, third parties and 3rd‑party delivered services, and supporting large‑scale incident management, escalation procedures and project delivery disciplines.
- Required certifications: COMPTIA Server+, COMPTIA Network+, BICSI Technician Training, Certified Data Centre Technician Professional (CDCTP®), Cisco Certified Network Associate – Data Center (CCNA DCICN, DCICT), Certified Data Centre Management Professional (CDCMP®), ITIL® Foundation & Expert. Previous training/qualifications within IT field are preferred but not essential.
