This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and highly motivated part-time Clinical Psychologist to join the Major Trauma Psychology Service. The role focuses on working with patients experiencing serious and life-changing injuries, their families, and staff members throughout the Major Trauma pathway. It is a lifespan service where the successful candidate will see patients with a range of comorbid and pre-existing difficulties.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct and indirect psychological support to Major Trauma patients.
- Attend the daily Major Trauma multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and offer consultation to the team.
- Contribute to service development, clinical governance, and the promotion of psychologically informed care within the Major Trauma Centre.
- Offer clinical supervision to assistants, trainees, and junior psychologists, as well as to other staff members.
- Utilise research skills for audit, service development, and research projects.
- Communicate effectively with all professionals involved in patient care to ensure safe, timely, and appropriate psychological assessment and support.
- Assess and treat individuals presenting with significant distress, trauma, and potentially life-threatening and changing injuries.
- Provide treatment for patients with cognitive difficulties and confusion.
- Develop a knowledge base regarding Major Trauma presentations and treat patients with complex orthopedic injuries, amputations, TBI, spinal injuries, and related conditions.
Qualifications
- Post‑graduate doctoral level training in Clinical/Practitioner Psychology accredited by the British Psychological Society.
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council.
- Training in the supervision of psychology trainees.
- Specific development of evidence‑based therapies such as CBT, EMDR, CFT, or ACT.
- Experience working in acute hospital settings and with neurological conditions.
- Experience with multidisciplinary teams in healthcare, social services, or related fields.
- Skills in complex psychological and neuropsychological assessment and intervention.
- Evidence‑based practice relevant to the role and risk assessment within scope of practice.
- Specialised training or knowledge in trauma management.
- Experience providing teaching, training, and clinical supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, assess, evaluate, and implement patient care.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and confidentiality skills.
- Proficiency in information technology and time‑management.
- High motivation to develop new skills and a flexible, reliable approach.
- Experience working within a multicultural framework.

Additional Information
The successful applicant will work mainly at Hull Royal Infirmary and will also travel between hospital sites when required to Castle Hill Hospital. The post holder will actively participate in the Major Trauma National Psychology Network and will be part of a thriving Department of Psychological Services at Hull University Teaching Hospitals. Professional support and supervision will be provided by a senior clinical psychologist within the department.
