Electrical Engineer – APC (Autonomous Platform Cup) – Bristol Formula Student AI (FSAI)

Role Description
Lead the design, implementation and testing of the electrical and power systems for the FSAI APC vehicle, collaborating with mechanical and AI teams to meet safety regulations and competition requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement low‑voltage power systems, including shutdown circuits (SDC), emergency braking interfaces and safety systems.
- Integrate batteries, BMS, motor controllers, and power distribution units.
- Debug electrical and communication faults.
- Support technical inspection and safety documentation (ESF, LVEV forms).
- Participate in vehicle testing and competition preparation.
Essential Qualifications
- Current student studying Electrical Engineering, Robotics or related fields.
- Strong foundation in circuit analysis, digital electronics and measurement systems.
- Basic understanding of power electronics, electric machines or energy systems.
- Familiarity with embedded systems, signal processing concepts, and ability to read schematics, datasheets and technical documentation.
- Hands‑on experience with hardware testing.
- Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience with student engineering projects, robotics, EV systems or Formula Student.
- Familiarity with low‑voltage vehicle power systems (<60 V), batteries, BMS, relays and fuses.
- Experience with CAN, UART or similar vehicle communication protocols.
- Awareness of electrical safety and safety‑critical system design (shutdown circuits, emergency systems, redundancy).
- Experience supporting technical documentation and inspections.
