Mechanical Responsible Engineer – ASSYSTEM – Warrington, UK – £91,331 per year (estimated), Permanent or Contract (Inside IR35)

The Mechanical Responsible Engineer (RE) holds full technical accountability for mechanical and ventilation engineering within their area, ensuring all work is safe, compliant, and fit for purpose across the project lifecycle. Working to R2A2 (ED21), they provide technical leadership, governance, and assurance, while retaining responsibility for key engineering decisions – even when delegated.

• Strong mechanical engineering background in regulated, safety‑critical environments.
• Proven technical accountability and decision‑making experience.
• Ensure compliance with legislation, standards, and safety requirements.
• Establish governance, assurance, and verification processes.
• Lead multi‑disciplinary teams and resolve complex technical issues.
• Manage technical risks effectively.
• Interface with project teams, regulators, and assurance bodies.
• Promote a strong safety, quality and compliance culture.
