Senior Building Control Officer

As a Senior Building Control Officer, you will help contribute to the delivery of our Building Control service through undertaking plan assessments and site inspections, liaising with clients and assessing developments against Building Regulations, associated legislation, Government guidance and Council policies. Depending on your RBI accreditation status, you will process and assess a range of Building Control applications to ensure compliance with the above whilst ensuring you accurately document and record information and issue decisions in a timely manner. You will play an important role in protecting public safety by responding to notifications of dangerous and dilapidated structures and ensuring appropriate action is taken.

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct plan assessments and site inspections.
  • Assess developments against Building Regulations, associated legislation, Government guidance and Council policies.
  • Process and assess Building Control applications according to RBI accreditation.
  • Document and record information accurately, issuing decisions in a timely manner.
  • Respond to notifications of dangerous and dilapidated structures and coordinate removal of danger.
  • Advise on technical and legal compliance with Building Acts, Building Regulations and related legislation.

Qualifications:

  • ONC, OND or BTEC in a building‑related subject; or a professional qualification from RICS, ABE, CIOB, or equivalent.
  • Specialism in Building Control; at least three years of experience within a Building Regulations environment.
  • Validated to a Building Safety Regulator Class 2 (A‑F) Domestic Registered Building Inspector.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload.
  • Valid driving licence and access to a vehicle; ability to travel to various sites across the city.
  • Right to work in the UK (no sponsorship offered).
