Overview

As Pre-hospital ECPR Consultant Training Lead, you will design, coordinate and deliver the entire ECPR training programme for London’s Air Ambulance and our strategic partners. You will shape a pioneering service, overseeing competency frameworks, simulation training, online learning, governance processes and on-scene proctoring during live ECAT shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and delivery of the pre-hospital ECPR training programme.
  • Organise six-monthly ECPR courses and regular ECAT/ECPR training days.
  • Maintain training records and oversee competency progression across the multi-professional team.
  • Proctor ECPR delivery on live ECAT shifts (Rapid Response Vehicle and occasionally helicopter).
  • Deliver training in femoral arterial access and pre-hospital TOE.
  • Oversee maintenance of training and simulation equipment.
  • Lead governance activities including audits, debriefs and learning dissemination.
  • Contribute to ECAT-related research and Pan-London ECPR collaborative work.

Qualifications (Required)

  • GMC Specialist Registration (or equivalent).
  • Consultant-level experience in a commissioned ECMO centre retrieval rota.
  • Experience in pre-hospital medicine and delivering ECPR/ECMO training.
  • Proficiency in ECMO cannulation and TOE.
  • Strong leadership, communication and teaching skills.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualifications in medical education, ECMO or TOE.
  • Experience in HEMS operations, ECPR research or programme development.
