The Business Modelling team of three core members (2 London, 1 Singapore) is responsible for defining how the business represents its trades and valuations across the organisation, ensuring a consistent, trusted view of commercial data that underpins trading and risk decisions. Core responsibility covers Trade Data and Valuation Models and the mapping logic that connects source and end systems, serving global stakeholders across Front and Middle Office.
Initial objectives are to bring LNG, Coal and Freight valuations onto a new third-party platform — improving the accuracy and timeliness of P&L and risk reporting for these books — as part of a wider modernisation of how the business values its portfolio, with future expansion into Power and Gas markets.
Job responsibilities
- Analyse business requirements and design the supporting data models, developing prototypes and specifications that IT teams can build out in line with enterprise architecture.
- Investigate and explain valuation differences between legacy and new systems, giving the business confidence in the numbers as books migrate.
- Apply market data expertise to meet new business requirements, working with Quant and IT teams to catalogue existing curves and review the current market data setup so that pricing and valuations rest on reliable inputs.
- Prioritise the pipeline of new requirements and day-to-day issues, balancing enhancements against the needs of the business.
Core Requirements
- Degree in a numerate or business-related discipline (e.g. economics, finance, engineering or computer science).
- 5+ years’ experience in Business Architect/Analysis, Trading Analyst, Product or Data roles within the energy trading sector.
- Proven understanding of the trade-to-P&L process — valuations, P&L Explain, trade life cycle, market data and risk — gained working with ETRM systems (e.g. Allegro, Endur, Topaz, Zema).
- Strong understanding of Energy Market Data including Forward and Derived curves.
- Hands‑on ability to analyse and interrogate data to answer business questions, using tools such as SQL, Excel, Python, Power BI and Databricks.
- Experience across physical trades life cycle (LNG, Coal and Freight).
- Awareness of modern data and integration approaches (e.g. distributed architecture, JSON-based modelling, APIs) and how they enable the business.
- Experience prioritising and managing a pipeline of business requirements (e.g. using Azure DevOps).
- Stakeholder management experience in Front Office, Product Control or Risk.
