Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship

Duration: Fixed-term 16 month contract.

Location: Rivington & Blackrod High School, Rivington Lane, Rivington, Bolton BL6 7RU.

Working Hours: 31.25 hours per week, Mon‑Fri, term‑time plus 5 days, 8:30 am – 3:15 pm.

Salary: £8.00 per hour, totaling £11,150 for working term time only plus 5 days; salaries paid evenly each month over the year.

Overview

This 16‑month fixed‑term apprenticeship allows you to develop your knowledge and understanding of the Teaching Assistant role while receiving practical work experience in school. You will work toward your Level 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification, with all coursework completed online via the Smart Assessor platform and supported by a tutor from LMP Education and school staff.

Main Roles and Responsibilities

  • Provide support for students, teachers, and other staff to raise standards of achievement.
  • Encourage students to become more independent learners.
  • Support the emotional, social, and physical welfare of students.
  • Assist in the inclusion of all students in school life.
  • Work under the direction of line manager, class teachers, and staff to support learning for whole classes, selected groups or individuals.
  • Assist with classroom activities and learning experience.
  • Help students who need extra support.
  • Attend relevant school meetings as required.
  • Respect confidentiality at all times.
  • Promote positive student behaviour in line with school policies and help keep students on task.
  • Interact with and support students according to individual needs and skills.
  • Arrange or provide resources for lessons/activities under teacher direction.
  • Demonstrate a positive commitment to equality and diversity.

Person Specification

  • 5 GCSEs at grades A‑C/9‑4, including English and Maths.
  • Enthusiastic with an interest in working with children.
  • A team player, reliable, committed, and punctual.
  • Professional, organised, and paying attention to detail.
  • Confidence in the ability to learn and develop.
  • Willingness to learn and participate in an educational setting.
  • Ability to act as a positive role‑model to young people.

Things to Consider

All apprentices require an Enhanced DBS check before commencing the role due to working with children. Apprentices are paid for normal working hours and training as part of the apprenticeship.

The selection process involves an initial screening call, followed by an in‑person interview. Applicants are required to complete an application form through the school’s website.
